PASCAL LASER : the PATTERN SCAN LASER
The 2007 medical design excellence award winning PASCAL is a TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH IN PHOTOCOAGULATION LASERS : Multi-spot, ultra-fast & safe for Focal or PRP retinal photocoagulation. Delivering a precise pre-set pattern of up-to 56 spots in one shot PASAL has revolutionized retinal laser treatment.
PAINLESS, PRECISE, PATTERN SCAN LASER – PASCAL – was installed at Grover Eye Laser & E.N.T. Hospital in May 2008. This is the first and only such laser in entire North India. Since it’s launch last year worldwide it has been acclaimed as a revolution in technology. It is CE & US-FDA approved for the treatment of :-
1.Proliferative & Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy. PDR, NPDR.
2.Choroidal Neovascularisation. CNVM, SRNVM,
3.Age-related Macular Degeneration. AMD, ARMD
4.Branch & Central Retinal Vein Occlusion. BRVO, CRVO.
5.Lattice degeneration
6.Retinal tears, holes. Retinal detachment.
7.Iridotomy, Iridectomy for Narrow Angle Glaucoma.
8.Laser Trabeculoplasty for both Open and Narrow Angle Glaucoma.
As per the June 2008 issue of Ophthalmology World Report : LEADING RETINA HOSPITALS OF THE WORLD HAVE SWITCHED OVER TO PASCAL FOR TREATMENT OF THEIR PATIENTS. Though being costlier than earlier lasers it compensates the patient by being safer, painless and faster and thus the patient tolerates more laser spots in one sitting and hence needs less laser sittings and less repeat visits to the doctor. One or two Pascal sittings are enough for most patients as opposed to 4 to 6 or at times even more sittings needed with older lasers. Many times patients need strong pain-killers and even injections to be able to tolerate older red or green lasers. The ultra-short pulse of only 10 to 20 milli-seconds by PASCAL greatly enhance the safety of this laser. In contrast red or green lasers have very long pulse duration of 100 to 300 milli-seconds for each shot. The fast, automatic Pattern Scan Multispot adds an extra punch to the treatment capacity and in addition to being painless this becomes more precise to a standard not possible with older single beam, single spot Argon, Diode, Red & Green lasers. In addition the use of latest anti-VEGF medication like Avastin, Macugen or Lucentis at Grover Eye Laser & E.N.T. Hospital have made a world of a difference to the treatment of many eye diseases. Due to it’s multiple 56 spots per shot it is now fondly referred to the AK-56 of retinal lasers, and also called Pascal the rascal.
