Redefining   Vision   with   latest   C-LASIK   CX-II   -   EAGLE   EYES   ( Super Vision )

Human beings have always tried to get the best in the world for themselves. Man always wanted to fly like a bird and he eventually surpassed them in flight. Eyes like an eagle was another long standing wish and now C-LASIK is making it possible. Human eye is capable of vision better than the conventional 6/6 or 20/20 in many cases but inherent aberrations in the optical system of the eye keep most of us below the optimal 6/5 or even 6/3 in an otherwise normal eye. Wave-front Guided Lasik was developed to achieve this goal and 1st Generation of such lasers such as CX-I or Zyoptix were launched a few years ago, but now with the launch of the 2nd Generation Navex or C-LASIK , Nidek CX laser at GROVER EYE LASER & E.N.T. HOSPITAL, India has achieved the distinction of being one of the few countries in the world to have acquired this state of the art technology. This technology is unique in the sense that it can virtually sculpt a living human tissue , that too a delicate organ like the cornea of the eye to a perfection beyond mother nature with treatment and eye tracking accuracy beyond NASA’s “Star Wars” standards. This technology was formally launched after extensive and exhaustive trials at the AMERICAN ACADEMY of OPHTHALMOLOGY meeting in U.S.A. in October 2002. This system was installed by GROVER LASER VISION CENTRE in Nov. 2002 with options of E-Lasik, Epi-Lasik and Epi-C-Lasik, also. The centre now has the latest software & hardware, upgraded in 2004 , August 2006 and February 2007.

New Diagnostic Facilities :

Corneal Topography in addition to Pachymetry (Corneal Thickness Test), has always been an important investigation for patients undergoing LASIK treatment. OPTICAL PATH DIFFERENCE SCAN , or O.P.D. Scan (ABERROMETER) is a highly sophisticated test where not only the front surface curvature of the eye as measured on Corneal Topography of about 10,000 points across the cornea is automatically measured, in addition any other imperfection (aberration) in the eye’s optical pathway from the cornea, lens, vitreous cavity and retinal surface is measured and automatically analysed . This guides the C-LASIK CX-II to correct any high or low order aberration in addition to the correction of spherical or cylinder number needed for a particular eye. Hence this Lasik is called CUSTOMISED LASIK or C-LASIK as each treatment parameter is specially programmed for a particular eye. This makes C-LASIK treatment superior to correction of only spectacle or contact lens numbers by earlier LASIK lasers.

The optics of each eye are different and a human eye has optical changes which can not be defined simply as spherical or cylinder with axis as are conventionally understood by those wearing or prescribing glasses. In addition the number of an eye need not change is steps of 0.25 diopter (number). Though spectacles and contact lenses can not be made more accurately and say after –3.25 the next power is –3.50, LASIK laser can be programmed to correct in steps like –3.300 or even –3.301, -3.302 etc. The unique feature of C-LASIK is that it studies each individual eye like an individual finger-print by shining a wave of light towards the eye and studying what happens to the light WAVE-FRONT when it is reflected back from the eye (like a sonar or a radar). The changes in the wave front by the eye’s cornea , lens, vitreous cavity or retinal surface are picked up to provide the unique finger-print of the eye which is then used by the laser’s advanced software to programme appropriate laser beam emission. The special Wavefront Plus with Final Fit and Multi-Point ablation by C-LASIK CX-II laser system has the world’s best tissue saving wave-front technology which ablates less than 10 microns of corneal tissue per diopter corrected. There is also the latest eye tracker with torsion error correction, automatic iris pattern recognition for best alignment with aspheric zone and both the small spot & scanning slit ablation, thus taking the advantage of technical advancements on all fronts.

You may be a good candidate for C-LASIK if you :

  • Feel that Spectacles or Contact Lenses are a hindrance in your job, sports or personal life.

  • Are above 18 years of age with stable spectacle power. Any plus, minus or cylinder number, from +1.0 to +12.0 , -0.50 to -27.0 or needing bifocal / progressive add glasses provided that other eye tests are normal.

  • Are troubled by scattered light (Aberrations) or have high number even after I.O.L., Cataract, Keratoplasty surgery.

  • Have been told that your corneas is too thin or pupils are too big for standard LASIK , refractive laser surgery.

  • Need vision correction for complicated or high numbers or need sharper vision for low numbers.

  • Do not suffer from corneal surface disorders, keratoconus, significant dry eyes, unoperated cataract or glaucoma, significant retinal pathology , uncontrolled diabetes, connective tissue disorder etc.

  • CONTACT LENS USERS ARE ADVISED TO DISCONTINUE LENSES BEFORE CKECK-UP.

Near Vision Correction :

Presbyopic Lasik (also called Presby-Lasik / Multifocal Lasik), that is the simultaneous correction of both distance and near vision number in patients wearing double number or bifocal glasses was so far not possible with any Lasik laser system in the world. Since June 2004, Grover Eye & E.N.T. Hospital is the first hospital in India to have developed and used advanced multizone Lasik creating multifocal corneal correction. With this Dr.Rohit Grover & Dr.Sujata Grover have joined the select group of only few doctors world-wide known to have developed such a technique. This also increases contrast sensitivity in most patients and has made a giant stride in the advancement of C-Lasik use. This technique is very useful for patients above 35 years of age having any spectacle number and for all plus number glasses users above 18 years of age.

Accurate pre-laser tests are important :

A computer can only be as accurate as the input data. Strict adherence to scientific guidelines at GROVER EYE LASER & E.N.T. HOSPITAL along with high ethics, detailed and accurate pre-laser tests and technological expertise with more than 15 years of cumulative experience in laser eye treatment and Excimer & LASIK LASER treatment since 1997, have made their laser vision correction results comparable to the best centers in the world. Re-correction is needed in less than 0.5% of patients. Doctors at this hospital do not hesitate to reject a candidate for LASIK laser if all scientific & medical parameters are not accurately met in a particular eye.

Benefits of C-LASIK treatment :

  • Laser parameters are personalized , custom-programmed for each individual eye. Like your finger-print the laser programme is unique for each eye.

  • C-LASIK laser can in fact improve the quality of vision to a level more than what was possible with glasses or contact lenses in many cases.

  • Available clinical data shows that patients treated by C-LASIK have less problems with night driving than patients undergoing treatment with a standard Lasik laser.

  • Each C-LASIK laser treatment involves the Optical Path Difference (O.P.D. Scan) test with Aberrometry & Pupilometry to let the surgeon understand your vision better and programme the laser accordingly.

  • In C-LASIK laser treatment highly sophisticated technology is used to detect and treat even small errors of vision.

  • The C-LASIK system has many advanced built-in safety features like ultra-fast eye tracking, iris-pattern recognition with torsion correction, auto-stop etc. that help to optimize the success of your treatment.

  • C-LASIK laser is a very safe, highly scientific, short, fast, precise, permanent and virtually painless treatment.

  • This is U.S. F.D.A. approved with very high rating.

Is there any risk or side effect involved.

World-wide LASIK laser treatment has become the gold-standard for refractive correction. Despite the professional rivallary motivated controversy in India , LASIK laser use is finding increasing acceptance in India and abroad. According to the Refractive Surgery Survey 2002 in cooperation with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) “In 2000 wavefront ablation was performed by just 2.5% of ophthalmologists worldwide. Last year, it rose to 10% .” it further stated that “During the year, the number of surgeons who have undergone these refractive procedures themselves was 4.2%.” (data from Ocular Surgery News , www.OSNSuperSite.com). Though being one of the safest methods for the permanent removal of glasses , there may be a few instances of over or under correction, infection, corneal haze and glare. The reasons for these problems are generally not technical but are due to different healing responses which vary from person to person. Indian eyes are as suitable for Lasik laser as their European or American counterparts. With the launch of C-LASIK CX-II laser which ablates less than 10 microns of corneal tissue per diopter , accuracy and safety of Lasik laser treatment has achieved new standards at Grover Eye Laser & E.N.T. Hospital. Eagle Eye Vision is no longer a dream, it is a reality.
